Journalism Notes

Definition:
Define “Journalism” in 1-3 sentences

The telling of current events. That are newsworthy through writing, newspapers, magazines, and the Internet.



TITLE DESCRIPTION EXAMPLE
1 Timeliness- Current events. Weather, sports scores.

2. Prominence- Care about important or famous people. Obama getting a dog, Prince of England getting married.

3. Proximity-Care about news close to us. Weather, Traffic.

4. Significance- Larger the event the more newsworthy it is everywhere. Japan earthquake, North Carolina tornado's.

5. Unusualness - things that don't happen very often. Murder, Shootings.


6. Human Interest- Feel good stories. Panda born, Rescues.




What are the advantages of print journalism?
1. Stories have better details.

2. You control what you read,and how much you read.

3. Can physically take it with you.


What are the advantages of broadcast journalism?

1. Alot more current since they can update it every so often.

2. Having video and sound.

3. Ability to get it anywhere.


Why has online journalism (convergent media) become so popular?

Because it is the best of both. You can control your reading and it can be updated constantly.
